For the first time, the eyes that always held possessiveness were filled with panic.

So this was what it felt like to die from the fumes of burning charcoal. It was unbearably painful. The suffocating weight pressed in, my lungs burning with searing pain. Perhaps it was fitting since only pain like this could cleanse the misery of the past three years.
