I asked myself as I met one of the sorcerer's gaze. Its face was clearly thinking that they had already won. Unlike normal magic, curses normally could not be evaded. Once activated, it will manifest in its target. The only known way to stop it is to directly enchant an anti-curse rune enchantment into the target beforehand or have an object like an artifact that was enchanted with the same buff. Unfortunately, I already used all the layered anti-curse rune enchantments last time just to get rid of that Archdeacon's curse. Chanting another layer was already too late.

Yvonne’s hands faltered, the magic flickering slightly as Serena pushed the glowing rune slightly when it was completely, waiting with bated breath to show it’s magic and just when Yvonne’s mouth opened, no doubt to spew a snark, the light from the rune fluttered and swirled around Serena and Dorian.

Runes pulsed inside it—alive. Maxim’s palm ignited. Flames licked his fingers, blue and gold. He torched the curse with a single spark. The air stilled. Silence returned. I dropped to my knees and slammed my bloody palm down on the center rune. The ancient magic pulsed in response. The stone glowed. First silver. Then gold. Then crimson—deep, living crimson, like it was bleeding with me. Behind me, I heard Silas hiss in pain as he cut his own hand and pressed it to the second rune. “By our oath,” he said through clenched teeth. “By blood and flame and fang. We claim this bond.
