"I need to know the truth, Cassian. Please." Cassian let out a long, ragged sigh and closed his eyes for a few moments, as if gathering the courage to speak. "Alright. Sit down, I’ll tell you everything." They sat back down on the edge of the mattress. Cassian buried his face in his hands, taking a deep, heavy breath. "My family’s curse began three generations ago, when my great-grandfather broke the heart of a scorned sorceress. Out of vengeance, she planted a curse in our bloodline—every full moon, we lose control and turn into beasts. Condemned to be entirely alone, because no one could ever endure us in that form."

Her answer sure came as a surprise to me. “It’s hard to understand this but the ancestors of the Goldsman were lycanthrope. It’s said that the Eldest Goldsman was referred to as Lord. He was cursed by a nasty witch after he ordered her execution for murdering innocent kids in name of sacrificial rituals. Due to it, he underwent a lot of trouble.” Caitlyn had a distant look in her eyes, staring past my shoulders towards the forest behind me.

Pearl rubbed the back of her neck near her ear. “Only 11 families? It’s a wonder the pack survived till now.” My heart hurts, and Thora wines at hearing how few families were found.
