She dragged herself to her feet, turning back toward the tunnel—
And screamed.
One of the Hollowborn had followed her.
It launched forward, teeth bared, claws reaching — but before it could touch her, a flash of silver slammed into it. The creature howled, thrown back against a tree, a low snarl rumbling from its throat.

He looked bruised, bleeding, but alive. His eyes blazed golden, his shirt torn, his hands smoking from the fire he’d thrown.
“You didn’t listen,” he growled.
