The stories were a reminder that there was still magic in the world, still wonder and awe to be found. As I turned the pages of the latest book Derek had brought me, I felt a sense of gratitude wash over me. I was grateful for the books, for the distraction they provided and the joy they brought me. But most of all, I was grateful for Derek, for his kindness and his thoughtfulness. He had brought light into my life, and for that, I would be forever grateful.

“It is.” Success didn’t change her routine. She still walked in the mornings. Still bought groceries herself. Still sat on benches without needing to own the moment. But something subtle shifted. People began to recognize her, not with entitlement, but with gratitude. That mattered. One evening, a young woman approached her at a bookstore. “I just wanted to say,” the woman began nervously, “your book made me stop apologizing for things that aren’t mistakes.” Serena felt her throat tighten. “That’s a hard habit to break,” she said gently.

This was new to me. I got a message from her one evening, as I got ready for bed. “Thank you for being here for the baby I know that it's not easy but I'm starting to see the changes in you let's just keep moving forward.” “One step at a time.” I viewed the statement quite a while. Gratitude began filling up my chest. Her words mattered. They grounded me. I was reminded that the road ahead was worth walking however difficult. I slept through that night with a resolve so quiet.

When I wake up in the morning, there’s a note on my nightstand: *“I had to leave early for a meeting, but I made coffee. It’s in the pot, and there are fresh bagels on the counter. Thank you for last night. For letting me in. For choosing to be present. You’re extraordinary, and I’m grateful every day that you’re giving us a chance. ~ L” I hold the note to my chest, smiling like an idiot, and for the first time in weeks, my mind is quiet. No competing voices. No confusion. No wonder. Just clarity. And the overwhelming certainty that I know exactly what I need to do.

I tapped the pen against the table, my knee bouncing under it. I actually thought this was going to be an easy task, but to my wildest surprise, it wasn't. How hard was it to show gratitude? I thought. Think Anthony, I muttered to myself. “Okay,” I muttered under my breath. “Easy stuff first.” I pressed the pen down, scribbling the first thing that came to mind. She’s a talented skater. I stared at the words. Simple, true, but it felt… flat. Like I was phoning it in. Gratitude wasn’t supposed to sound like a bullet point from a résumé.

I smiled as we said our goodbyes, feeling incredibly grateful for the amazing people in my life. I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude as I walked into Iris's home, the scent of delicious food filling my senses. I had been so caught up in the whirlwind of my book's success that I had forgotten about the little things - like the warmth of a home-cooked meal and the comfort of being surrounded by loved ones. As I took my seat at the dinner table, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. Iris had pulled out all the stops to celebrate my success, and I couldn't help but feel humbled by my friend's generosity.

I'm very grateful to Allah (SWT) who made it easy for me to start this book and finish it. Without Him, I don't think I can think of writing these pieces. And then all thanks to you readers, commenters and silent readers too. I'm very grateful. Without you, I don't think I will be able to write this.
