She stood at the edge of the clearing, barefoot, confused, reaching out just as the power I’d summoned exploded forward.
A blinding pulse.
A scream.
Davina flew backwards like a ragdoll—slamming into the wall with a sickening thud.
Everything stopped.
“No,” I breathed, stumbling forward. “No, no, no.”
She didn’t move.
Didn’t blink.
Her body lay limp in the grass, twisted at an angle that made my heart plummet.
Mikah appeared beside her in an instant, dropping to his knees, his hand hovering over her chest.
I was already running, falling beside them, shaking. “I didn’t mean to—I didn’t see her—”
