When we reached my porch, the door swung open. "Ivory? You are late—" My mom stopped mid sentence, her eyes darting from my wine stained shirt to the boy standing next to me. "Good evening, Mrs. Walter," Daniel said, and I swear, the transformation was nauseating. He stood up straighter, his face morphing into the "Perfect Golden Boy" mask. He looked polite, responsible, and utterly charming. "I am Daniel. I am a friend from school. I saw Ivory being harassed by some locals and wanted to make sure she got home safe."

Daniel sorted, reclassified while Eleanor dusted the bookcases in question and reshelved the newly Deweyed books in proper order. Another of the lawyers, a burly man in a bright blue tie, nodded understandingly. “That makes sense. Miss Morales has always been private about her personal life. I suppose it’s because of the bunch of jerks she’s had to deal with,” he added, giving Astrid a supportive look. “But she’s a good girl, very professional.” And you seem like a decent man. “I am,” Daniel interjected with a confidence that left no room for doubt. “I’m an entrepreneur, specializing in technology. Innovation, development… that sort of thing.” Astrid frowned and glanced at him sideways, confused.

Stephanie dad asked, “we are carried away with discussions” Daniel retorted, “that Is alright” the chief said, “when are coming with your people?“ he asked, “soonest sir” Daniel retorted, “what Is your specialities?“ the chief asked, “am a practicing lawyer” Daniel retorted “hmm, when did you finished from the law school?? “ he asked, “last two years” Daniel retorted,

“I’m really scared, Isla.” “I don’t think she’ll do that. She seemed like she wanted something from us. I don’t think she would sabotage her chances just yet.” Daniel said. “But who is she?” Andrea quizzed again. “Most likely a Reignile warrior.” Cayden said and we all turned to look at him. “I don’t think so.” I argued. “She looked nothing like a Reignile warrior.”

"Well, you certainly nailed it with these, Daniel. How did you know they're my favorite?" He shrugged playfully. "I have my ways of knowing things, Jess. It's a secret power of mine." I rolled my eyes, a playful banter forming between us. "Oh really? So, what else can you tell me about yourself, all-knowing Daniel?" He smirked, leaning back on his elbows. "Well, besides being a master of snacks, I also happen to be an expert sandcastle builder. Prepare to be amazed." I raised an eyebrow, feigning skepticism. "I'll believe it when I see it, Mr. Sandcastle Expert."

Calix raised an eyebrow at her, now back in his seat, Daniel's back to him. Ilana ignored him. “Great. See you there,” Daniel said and Ilana nodded before walking out.

I gave her a small smile, letting her know I was there for her if she needed me. “I’m sorry, Nathaniel. I know I’m not good company right now. I was just rereading Tim’s letter. It’s painful to know he’s gone, and the only thing he really thought of was me living out the rest of my days. The last thing he will ever say to me is for me to live my life and to live it with another man.”
