The room was no longer lit by the fire; it was lit by us. The climax hit me like a landslide. My body convulsed, my walls clamping down around him in tight, rhythmic pulses. Chapter Eighteen I’m back in the woods. All light is gone, save for the glowing blue flames in front of me. The hellfire retreats, surrounding the demon. I stand in the flames, watching myself command the fire. The blue-eyed man is next to me, watching everything play out along with me. “Why are you showing me this again?” I ask, but my voice is lost to the flames. Suddenly, the flames go out, and I hear Lucas calling my name.

We moved in silence: Caspian’s team in black tactical gear, Dre and I flanking them. Thermal drones had pinpointed heat signatures inside the old cannery building. I have them in light scents, not wanting to overpower our scents of each other. I put on light music, sounds of the forest and the fae creatures that sing in the trees at night. I have already set aside some food for the occasion, it’s in the my small refrigerator, but that will come later.

An omen that something far darker was awakening.
