I have tried all known medications I have access to and none of them seem to slow this thing down.” I wouldn’t imagine anything used to cure a human of an illness would get rid of this supernatural pest.

I murmur. “Who's there?”

My silver eyes glance sharply at the writhing body of the dying female. Her lips are already turning a dark, toxic purple color, and her chest is gasping desperately for a single breath of air. Not only that, but her fingers are clenching the fur over her heart with a brutal, crushing grip, indicating that the source of her lethal pain is coming directly from her heart valves.

I turn back to look at my friend. Damion’s face is swelling like he’s in a bad cartoon, lips thick and skin flushing a mottled red and purple. Foam seeps from the corner of his mouth, the bubbles catching the harsh fluorescent light. The monitor at his head beeps in quick, anxious bursts — I swear it laughs … each green spike like a sneer on the screen. “Hypotension … tachycardia … tachypnea … cyanosis …” I catch a few words Deimos is shouting. I don’t understand half of them, but the clipped urgency in his tone shoves ice into my veins.

I'm speechless. What's going on with this demon?
