Then, I caught the sight of Cami who was standing in a corner with hopeful eyes. She was everything a Luna should be; kind, compassionate. She knew all the customs and cared for all the members of the Gilkins family. In short, she was perfect to be the Luna of this pack. I could learn the customs, maybe even win the love of all the members of this family. But, how could I deny the fact that I was a murderer? I had killed three people and I was still a killing machine. If I stayed here, I would bring only bad luck and death. So, I played along and accepted Kevin’s rejection. “You are one naughty little kitten, aren’t you?” Amber smirked, her eyes glinting with mischief. “Naughty, but yours,” Amber purred, pressing a playful kiss to the tip of Axel's nose. “Though if you keep calling me a kitten, I might start meowing instead of purring.” Axel laughed, rolling onto his back and pulling Amber with him so that she straddled his waist. “You're lucky you're so damn cute, Amber Davis,” he said, tracing a lazy finger down the curve of her spine. “But maybe, if you're a good little kitten, I'll let you out of class early so we can pick up where we left off last night.”

“Ashley, look at the door. The real surprise is here.” Utterly confused, I turned my head and froze, my breath catching in my throat. Three tiny babies toddled across the polished floor, their little paws soundless. My heart swelled at the sight of three kittens, not more than a few weeks old, their soft fur a patchwork of white and warm brown, their eyes the clearest blue like pieces of sky. “Oh, the Moon Goddess…”

I have no idea who this woman is but clearly, he did not want her here and she was unwelcome. “So you got a kitten today. Tell me about it?” “Well it’s a girl. She’s really small with blue eyes. She is all white with orange, and black spots. Dee-Dee called her a calico. She’s about two months old. She is sweet, but shy. I….um…had actually called you to let you know I had to make a big purchase today to get what I needed for her. I’ll find a way to pay it back. I’ll get a job if I have to.”

He shrugged, his eyes squinting with excitement. Despicable mother? What would my dear lovely mother do when she realize that after everything she forced me to do, her precious son still wants her life? Pretending not to want anything from the family wealth, tolerating his bullshit, and even living my youth for him just to prove that I was trustworthy. Since he’s so eager to have my life, he could take it, but not without letting him know the truth. I smiled, taking a bold step forward. “Guess what, Riz?” I mumbled, exhaling before I said the next words. “You were birthed by the same ‘despicable’ woman.”

After she left, Nate picked up the kitten by the scruff. "Sweet, isn't she?" he sneered, then narrowed his eyes and added, "She is a delicacy indeed, but not for you to eat. She is mine, and you better get that through your head." Their stare down dragged on for a long moment until Kitten opened her mouth and let out a wide yawn, totally unimpressed. Nate released her, feeling a bit well..insulted. The kitten sprawled across the pillow and stretched, dismissing him in his own house.

Or was I just imagining it? Just as I was about to stand up, the kitten began to shimmer and transform. My eyes widened in horror as the small, adorable creature changed before my very eyes. Its fur rippled and shifted into sleek, dark scales. The kitten’s small, innocent face morphed into a fierce, wolf-like snout, revealing a row of sharp, menacing teeth. I gasped, stumbling backward in shock. “Oh my Gosh!” I shrieked, dropping the now-monstrous creature as it snarled and lunged at me, its eyes glowing with a predatory light.

It didn't take Luna five minutes to finish all of the food that was on the table. When she was finished eating, Bartram was stunned. She drank the last cup of water and leaned back against her chair. “Okay, now let's talk about helping Alice,” Luna muttered. Ashford picked up the plate that was on a table. None of them contained any more food for him. “Kitten, father made this food for me, and you ate them all,” he pouted. “I'm starving.” “I will make another one,” Bartram said. “You three can talk about what she came here for.”

Its touch and fur felt very real. As she held the kitten in her arms, it blinked. “Madam, I’m your birthday present. From now onward, I’ll also be your pet. You may instruct me to close the door, close the curtains, close the air-conditioning, listen to music, attack that nobody, attack the bad guys, protect you, and more…” Charmine frowned.
