I grabbed my burner phone, shoved an airpod under my wig, and began to chop onions with the ferocity of a woodchipper.
"Jean-Pierre! More coffee!" Julian yelled from the lounge.

I dialed the precinct handling the sighting, using a voice modulator I’d built into the burner. I set it to Hard-Boiled Noir Detective.
"Detective Miller, Precinct Five," I growled into the phone, my voice dropping three octaves into a gravelly, American baritone.
"Yeah, this is Detective Henderson from the Hamptons task force," the officer on the other end replied. "You calling about the Knight sighting?"
