“The book is right over there, on the third shelf, with a blue spine. Help yourself while I grab my notes from the office. Make yourself comfortable. I’ll only be a minute.”
I nodded, already drifting toward the shelves like a moth to flame. My fingers trailed over them, pulling out the book he’d mentioned. It was heavy.
I sank onto the couch, flipping it open, the leather cool against my thighs. I lost myself for a moment in the book.
True to his word, Dexter returned quickly, carrying a slim folder. He set it on the coffee table and dropped onto the couch beside me not too close, but close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from him.
