Almost impatient. “How long will this take?” he asked. “About an hour.” “That’s too long.” “We need to be careful.” Dexter sighed.“Just do it.” The nurse nodded. The machine beside him started filling slowly. I stood a few feet away, completely confused. Who was behind that curtain? Why did Dexter have the exact blood this person needed? Why had he driven here himself? And why did he look like he was terrified of losing whoever was inside? I looked at him again. His face was slowly getting pale.
