My heart was hammering so loud I was certain she could hear it.
“You seem to know a lot about dragon biology,” I said carefully.
“I know enough.”
“How?”
She didn’t answer that one either. But her eyes held mine, and in the firelight I could see her pupils were dilated. Wide, dark, swallowing the green until only a thin ring remained.
Her heartbeat had quickened. I could hear it. Fast, steady, matching the rhythm of the pulse behind my ears.
“It’s affecting you too,” I said.
