I wanted to transform and tell him we weren't dogs, but Lux smoothly padded over to the stick and picked it up with his mouth, wagging his bushy tail as he placed the stick at the boy's feet. The little fellow laughed and his voice soothed my soul. “Good doggie." He ruffled Lux's fur. “Dominic, something is not right," my wolf informed me. We watched Lux and the boy playing fetch. “What is it Onyx?" “Why is the boy here? You think he heard my howls?"

There was a knife on the edge of the sink, I got up and grabbed it, pointing it at the man. "You're making a huge mistake," the man growls through gritted teeth. "Leave her, get the dog off of me." The first man yells as he tries to get Charlie off of him, but Charlie never lets go of a new toy until he completely chews through. The man’s eyes flick to me, but I don’t flinch. I’m shaking, I’m terrified, but I won’t let him see my fear at least not until I saw him pulling out a gun.

Past him, I see who I assume is his owner, a young man who can’t be more than twenty-something, gesturing for me to throw the frisbee back to him. I pick up the toy and stand as the dog stands up with me. With a practiced flick of my wrist, I send the disc flying straight back to the owner as the dog races off after his toy. With a smile, I use a hand to shield my eyes from the sun and watch the dog leaping and trying to catch the toy every step of the way until the owner catches the disc. The dog leaps into him, bowling him over and sending him to the ground on his backside as I laugh.

He sits and lifts his paw, lowering his head, which means please. “Good boy, fetch.” I grab the stick and throw it through the air as hard as I can. “Arf!” He takes off after it, catching it in mid-air and bounding back over. I throw a couple more times before my arm starts to feel numb. “Can I try?” Tony has wandered over to me, I smile at him pleased he is showing interest in Fang. “Absolutely.”

She smiled and sipped her coffee. Milo ran up and dropped his ball at her feet. She proceeded to play a few rounds of fetch with him, until Milo halted halfway back to the deck. He whipped his head towards the woods and dropped the ball. His tail was straight and high. Amerie’s heart skipped a beat as she followed his gaze towards the line of trees closest to them.
