"We should let her have some rest. Come on." They all say their goodbyes before they troop out. Tasha waits behind. She sits down on another chair closer to the window and also to us. Luca sighs sadly and I raise a hand to his face. I trail my finger over his features as tears well up in my eyes. "This is all my fault." "It's not your fault, baby. I should have -" "But it is!" I cry out. "It is my fault, Luca. I l-left you and I said those harsh w-words to you. I can't believe I did that. I should have told y-you what he said instead of running away like a chicken."

“None of this is your fault.” But it felt like my fault. Every drop of blood he’d spilled, every scar he’d earned—it all felt like it was on me. I clenched my fists in the sand, the grains biting into my palms. “I’m not leaving you,” I said quietly, my voice barely audible over the fire. “So stop trying to make me feel better about it.”

It’s so early in the morning for her nagging. “I have to do it. I can’t just stay home and do nothing,” I told her. “And whose fault is that?” she asked. Here we go again. We always start our conversation like this. “I admit it’s my fault. I should have not left my first job. It was not doing anything wrong to me. I was treated well. I got everything I asked. It was a dumb decision to leave it especially during this time. Satisfied?” I answered.

Savannah Leo was kidnapped. The thought of it still sounded strange in my ear. In a way, you could say it was almost funny. I couldn’t imagine how we’d gotten here, but somehow I still knew one thing was certain. It was all my fault. There had been this tiny voice ringing those words repeatedly in my head since the moment I heard about that. ‘It was your fault. It was your fault, Savannah. You could have stayed away, but now you roped someone else into your mess, and if something should happen to him, it’ll be your fault still.’

I am enough for us both. "Hey don't cry. It’s over. And this is not your fault. Obviously, he's always been messed up. He just couldn't control you and lost control of himself. Look at me! This is not your fault! If you did that to a normal guy, he'd just walk away." He explains. "I have never done anything like that ever! I'm so embarrassed. I acted shamefully." I whisper. "You need to let it go and move on. It's in the past, leave it there. Move on to the present. With me?" He asks.

I blame my fucking self; I was the one who told her to get out of the house and go do something other than sit here in the nursery driving herself crazy with the little things she felt needed to be done. I blame myself, it’s all my fucking fault she's once again gone. The amber liquid in the crystal glass I hold in my hand is doing nothing to silence the fucking voice in my head that's taunting me with its words. ‘It keeps saying it’s your fucking fault, it’s your fucking fault, it's your fucking fault.’

Curse that person to ruin my good mood. "It's not your fault. I assure you that I'd have done the same thing if it had been me. I know you couldn't resist his charms, he gets like this when he wants something. You don't have to beat yourself up about it. What is done is done already, there's nothing we can do to change that. Now, clean your tears and lend me your phone. I need to make a few phone calls and then we'll head to the hospital. I'm sure the boys will be down soon."

The tears were uncontrollable, she didn't say anything and just sat there with me, her hands on my back tapping me lightly. My heart was still shattered, his words still registered in my head as I played them again every passing second, I wish I could make him take back everything he said. “It's not your fault” my mother’s voice rings out and I break down even more. I want to believe that it was not my fault, I want to feel at ease and blame it all on him but I also know that I may be the one at fault. If I hadn't poked my nose where it shouldn't be then I would still be there.
