Keeping it pressed against my chest, I started walking in the direction of the librarian. "Can I borrow this book?" I asked her, and I placed the book on the table in front of her. She looked shocked. "Why did you touch the book?" the librarian asked, snatching the book from my side. "Why can't I?" She raised her head to look at me. She stood up from her chair and declared, "Touching the bookshelves in the last corner is forbidden. Don't you know that?" That came as a complete surprise to me. It was the first time I had ever heard of any rules pertaining to these books.

Yes I might not have been too keen to recommend a book to him but since he’s already exhausted me with his weird antics it definitely wouldn’t hurt to sell him one of our most expensive books. My fingers hover over the keys as I wait but I could still feel it, the biting cold that never left my skin. Seeing as he’s still standing still I move stretching on tip toe as I take the book from him this time. His fingers brush mine again by accident or not accident, I can’t tell anymore but I react faster now, pulling back before I could sit with that cold too long. His touch still lingers though, like it doesn’t fully leave even when contact is broken.

“Trust me, hearing those screams triggered my panic attack. It was a numbing noise. I can’t even express it in words...” He cocked one of his eyebrows, “touch it again.” “What?” “The book, what else?” He raised the book in front of my eyes in his hands. I impulsively shifted back, shaking my head. He intertwined his fingers with mine. “I am here. It will be fine, so touch it.” “No!” I tried to wrench my hands out from Amor’s grip, but couldn’t. “Please, no! That was… disturbing…” “But I don’t feel a thing when I touch it. Why should I trust you? Why should I believe you aren’t acting again?”

What the hell is happening here? “What the fuck?” I say. Is this some kind of prank that Victor’s decided to pull? He should know that we are not in high school anymore, and this kind of behaviour is nothing but stupid. I don’t understand what this means, but I know it’s nothing good. I don’t know what to do. Should I touch the book? Should I even go near it? What if something bad happens to me if I do touch the book? The book finally stops moving, and it stays on one page. There’s an image in the book. I look hard at what’s being portrayed, and it’s the image of a beast with large horns.

She kept looking at the disappearing figure of her daughter as if she had already her precious baby girl. “Very good. You are on time.” Dankein hauled up from his seat and grabbed the nag Scarlet was carrying. He peeked inside and found a ridiculously huge book covering almost the whole of her backpack. He was about to touch the book when Evanora's words reverberated in his ears, “Don’t touch the book with your hands. If needed, use a cloth. There must be a barrier between the book and you. The only people allowed to touch it are Scarlet, Emerald, and the Old Dead Emperor kn this material world.”

“If you think I stole it then you can check it and return it yourself.” He flinched like I’d thrown fire at him. His hands twitched but didn’t reach. His eyes locked on it with fury and terror. “I can’t.” My stomach twisted, bile rising in my throat. “What do you mean you can’t?” “Nobody in the Kingdom can touch it without burning Aqua. That book holds secrets…..” he groaned. “But one can touch it, not even the witches or wizards.” I picked the book up again and held it tighter, half wishing it would burn me just to prove him right. I really hope it's not the same situation I had with the Core Fang. I can't go through that all over again.
