And then he walked away with the man, leaving me in the middle of the most insane room I had ever seen. For about ten seconds, I listened. Then I moved. I know, stupid, but there was too much happening. A woman laughed behind glass. A masked couple disappeared behind a curtain. A waiter passed with champagne like this was a normal Tuesday. I followed a hallway where the music got lower and something else got louder. Shouting and cheering. My heels clicked faster until I pushed through a heavy black door and stopped. The room opened into a ring. People packed around it, screaming, waving money, chanting one name until it shook the walls, “Dante! Dante! Dante!”

The woman in the red dress struggled to breathe and absorb what was going on about her. She sensed emotions of tragedy, anguish and desperation all around. Her head was heavy, she was breathless like something heavy had been pushed down on her, and her consciousness was fading. Focus, Focus! she told herself.
