Christmas was the reading of the book. This Christmas, Don's book was a novel—Norwegian, which was not a coincidence, a novel by the same writer whose essays were in the Norway reading programme. The novel was called The Dark Year, and it was about a man who spent a winter alone in a cabin in the far north of Norway, experiencing the full darkness for the first time. Don had been saving it since September, when he had finished the essays. He had placed it on the shelf above his desk, the designated holding place for the Christmas book, and had not opened it once.

Rain hammered against the windows nonstop while fog slowly spread across the road ahead. Then the hotel appeared. Winona straightened immediately. The Midnight Hotel stood in the middle of the mountains like something pulled out of an old gothic movie. Warm golden lights glowed behind enormous glass windows while fountains shimmered beneath the storm outside. It looked luxurious, elegant, and strangely isolated from the rest of the world. “Okay,” Ava breathed. “I would absolutely die here.” “Comforting choice of words.” The moment they stepped inside, warmth surrounded them. Crystal chandeliers sparkled overhead while soft piano music drifted through the massive lobby. Beautifully dressed st

Behind me, Rome stayed near the entrance, watching quietly. “Do you like this one?” he suddenly asked. I turned slightly. He was pointing toward a specific book resting on one of the nearby shelves. I stepped closer and pulled it out carefully. My eyes widened slightly when I read the title. It was a novel written by Sun the Morning. A love story about the moon and the sun. A quiet memory surfaced inside my mind. I had read this before in my past life. The story had stayed with me for years because of how bittersweet and beautiful it had been.

Lara recalled the cluster of security men converging on the helipad, blurred glimpses of an incredibly large white villa, and heat that only increased the nonstop pounding behind her temples. Jet lag had finally caught up with her. A rueful grimace slanted her face as she gingerly slid out of bed to gratefully appreciate that the ground beneath her feet was no longer rocking. It was dark outside. Locating the bedside light, Lara glanced at her watch. “8 pm… Are you kidding me?” The housekeeper, at least Lara assumed the warm, matronly woman who had come to her assistance was the housekeeper, had been a merciful savior. She had taken charge, banishing Christophe and helping Lara to bed.

POV(FIONA), I stared at the ocean till my eyes got sore, the evening sun was up, the waves rushing forth and backwards, the magical sensation, it brought back memories to me. A year ago I was branded Wolfless and demoted to an Omega, it was the saddest feeling but I thought it was probably a test from above, it was going to get fixed right?, But I was wrong. The more I tried to adapt to the Omega rules, the more unfair life became to me, I try to hide my feelings and face it all, but sometimes I just cry it out.

All I can hear is a ticking clock, but I don’t know where it is coming from. “Midnight is coming,” a voice whispers. “Run while you can.” She asks if I can hear that, but I’m not sure what to tell her. “I can, but where is it coming from? We are on a bridge in the middle of the woods.” Valeria holds me tighter. “Kendric, we have to find out what midnight means. There’s something behind it.” I wake with a jolt, unsure of what in the world just happened. Valeria stirs by my side, her eyes wide with panic. “Kendric, were you dreaming again? You mumbled something about midnight and were shouting my name at one point. What was it?”

Maya’s POV Midnight is rude. It removes logic. It removes fear. It removes clothing in your imagination before you can stop it. And unfortunately, my imagination has a favorite victim. My next door neighbor is tall, unfairly attractive, and has the kind of voice that could convince a nun to sin without even raising his tine My name is Maya Collins. I am nineteen. I am supposed to be focused on saving my family business, finishing university, and behaving like a responsible adult.

“Ki Lembu Narawara is highly respected by the royal court. Even the Sultan himself can’t simply do whatever he wants there. We’ll ask Ki Lembu to shelter us.” “How far away is it?” “Pretty far, but I estimate we can make it there in less than a day and a night if we leave now.” “But it’s already late afternoon. Nightfall is coming. We’ll have to stop somewhere and spend the night.” “Exactly. My travel estimate includes time for rest and sleep.” “What if we run into a band of forest robbers? You’re confident you can handle them alone?” Rinjani nodded. “I am. Our only real problem tomorrow morning will be Alas Mayit, the Corpse Forest. The road to the Sun School takes us straight through it.”

She got up in a rush from their king-size bed and looked at the time. The time was 1: 00 am. “Today is the 2nd day of July 2019. Game on, Brother. Game on, F-ing Moon goddess!.” “Why are you speaking to yourself, my beautiful vixen?”. Salvatore inquired, yawning and putting his curling midnight hair in place. Velda stood by their large window staring outside at the full moon, she felt the moon mocking her. A single tear fell from her eyes. Salvatore rushed over to her, hugging her from behind. He kissed her red hair, adjusted her luscious hair from the nape of her neck, breathed on it, and gave her light kisses on the neck to the collar bone.
