He was here. The sun was up and in my eyes. The first thing I saw was a sheer curtain attempting to keep the morning light away. The wind blew, sending the curtains up to the ceiling. The few seconds that the window was left bare, I caught a glimpse of the flowers designed by mother nature blooming in bunches and shrubs. They were in a dozen poignant colours, the reds looked like it could bleed. And there were butterflies, two– no three fluttered in my vision. Their wings, quite small but painted like it could only be made for the museum or for Disneyland. The curtain closed and I saw the room more clearly.

She screamed. “Noooooooo.” The female honked again and then her back formed slits on either side. Slimy, pink wings tore out from the slits and stretched. They looked thinner and more fragile than the ones the males had, but much larger. She flapped them slowly, then faster, and then lifted off the ground. Dudley came running over in a panic. “Do something! Please!” We were all looking up at the dragons wheeling in circles as the female rose to join them. The Mezzik took off to escort the female.

I answered. I looked at the fairy, and she smiled at me before approaching Joy, who was still in pain for reasons I don’t understand. Joy suddenly floated through the air towards the river’s center. We just stood there waiting for something to happen, and as we looked at Joy, a light enveloped her and bright blue butterflies surrounded her.

Tears slid down her face as she finally picked up the phone. “No matter the cost or the method—find Jonathan. You must.” On the beach, beneath brilliant sunlight, I felt a smile on my face, something I had not worn in a long time. Beside me, Margo Fallstar handed me a glass of juice and laughed softly as she cupped her face. “What do you think? Isn’t this place great? My best friend recommended it just for me!” Margo rummaged through her handbag and pulled out several pairs of sunglasses, each in a different style, and held them up against my face one by one.
