I shrugged, “Um, sure.” I flipped through my drawing book as Emma settled into the padded chair. Gloomy portraits and detailed objects littered each page that I skimmed by. Dark colors was a main theme that I stuck to. Depending on the drawing, a splash of pastel hues or bright colors would decorate the pages. It made me a bit happier to see something vivid and vibrant in the midst of darkness. “Are you okay, Raelynn?”

"You drew all this?!" Kalen asked the little girl in astonishment. Although the drawings were a little messy and not completely perfect but for a 4 year old it should not be possible to draw this beautifully, it looked to have been drawn by a teenager with reasonable artistic training.

“Yes, ma’am.” As she moves toward the flat-screen across the room, I return to the suitcase, pulling out one of Liam’s sketchbooks. The cover is bent, the corners smudged with fingerprints, but inside? Dinosaurs. Rainbows. One drawing of a house with three stick figures: one tall, one medium, one small. He’d labeled them—Mommy, Liam, and Daddy Knoxx. I press the sketchbook to my chest and try not to cry. The TV clicks on.

I couldn’t believe how much he had grown; it seemed like just yesterday he was a few inches shorter. Chris’s face was all lit up, his cheeks rosy with enthusiasm. He was practically bouncing on his toes as he held up his artwork for me to see. The pages were filled with colors, blues, greens, and yellows all mashed together in a whirlwind of childlike creativity. “Look, look!” he said, waving the pages so fast they almost fluttered like wings. “Grace said when I finish coloring all these, we can make them into a book for my baby sister!”

The images were made to protrude from the pages. The coloring was very decent and everyone in the picture has their names tagged above their heads. Dwayne came over to look at the picture as well. I was standing with my hands draped around Maverick’s shoulders while my mother and Ashley were standing beside us and both Jared and Dwayne were standing on either side. The dogs were also included in the picture.

Kingsley, was a great artist, he was the one who designed the cover of my first book ''The lion's den and other stories' and I compensated by getting him a laptop to go further and produce more dynamic ones using PhotoShop. Red scribbles in circular patterns, shapes that look more like symbols than animals. One has a giant black figure drawn with scratchy lines and tiny words underneath it.
