Slowly, I lost every remaining ounce of my strength, and my eyes drifted closed.
I snapped awake, gasping loudly for air as a wave of panic washed over me.
"It was just a dream..." I whispered, pressing a trembling hand against my neck.
My pulse was still very fast from the terrifying daytime delusion, but as I glanced out the window, I realized the sun had long since set. It was late at night. It hadn't been a daydream, it was a full nightmare.
Just then, the sharp buzz of my phone broke the silence of the dark room. I looked down at the glowing screen, and my heart stopped.
