Like it was never up for debate. He gives a sharp thumbs up. The other hand flies across the laptop, cued up and ready. Sky is a go. The approval sends a strange little rush through me. The DJ signals—come on, the music kicks in. I don’t know this track… wait—I do. “Candy.” Classic. I take a breath, step forward— Then snap—a hand clamps down on my wrist. I turn around and my breath catches. Big, strong, probably late thirties, with dark hair slicked back and a neat blonde beard that makes his sharp blue eyes stand out even more.

I drop to the floor, and crawl into the room and lock the door. “Come on out, sweetheart, it’s me, Dante Jovie, Alessandro's most trusted advisor,” his voice rings in my ear, but I stay still on the other side of the door, only the sound of my beating heart audible.

He’s giving me the full stink-eye, arms crossed, jaw tight, as if I personally orchestrated this entire situation just to ruin his night. The song ends, and the noise explodes again — cheers, whistles, shrieks bouncing off the walls and vibrating through the club. For a few seconds, though, I don’t hear any of it. I just stare at the man on stage. Even from this distance, Damion’s eyes cut through the chaos, green as green can be, almost glowing under the lights. My throat goes dry. I lift the glass and gulp down half the blue drink in one reckless shot, instantly regretting it as heat slides down my chest.

It was design to be one hell of a street war, the toughest of all streets dance battles. DJ fury happens to be the official DJ at the lighthouse, mixing the wheels with those wicked skinny fingers of hers that makes the table turn and goes up in flames. She is also current with the hottest hip-hop mixes and craziest of beats, so hot are her mixes that she knows the perfect beats each dance crew loves to dance to, but some of us still came up with our own mixes.

DJ certainly deserved better. I smiled over at them; the contrast between the pair lying on the floor was so distinct that it was almost comical. Jace was so tall and lean and mouth wateringly perfect, with his blond hair, blue eyes and creamy skin. Then there was DJ with his brown hair and eyes like mine, and his dad’s naturally tanned skin. They were so different, but for some reason that made them look even more beautiful together.

"Just give me another drink, my reputation can go into the gutter." "Alright then." He nodded, moved back, and poured me another glass of the strongest liquid I'd ever had. I brought the glass to my nose and inhaled the repulsive smell. If this was a normal day, I would have never thought of drinking such or stepping into this filthy club filled with garish and annoyingly shitty music. Whoever the DJ was, he had the worst taste in music and the people dancing to it clearly didn't know what they wanted in life. I stared at the glass and grinned, I was here for the drinks anyway, nothing else mattered and no one bothered me.

Daniel sighed. "I'll be fine. I'm counting down the minutes until this ball is over, so I can go back to bounty hunting." DJ was an outstanding tracker, one of the best in all the lands. If a wolf or a vampire needs to track down someone, then DJ was the man to call. His father didn't really agree with his son and future alpha of his pack to be roaming around the globe hunting down danger like this, but DJ had a fire in him like his mother. Once he put his mind to something, there was no changing it.

The club hit him all at once. Smoke and perfume and something underneath, the usual madness of people who wanted to forget themselves for a few hours. The lighting was low and red, the kind that made everyone look dangerous, Strobe cuts through the dark in slow pulses. On the main floor, the crowd moved like one organism....arms up, heads back, surrendered completely to the music. The DJ was deep into something with a heavy baseline that vibrated through the floor, through the walls, through the expensive glasses lined up behind the bar.

DJ said pulling me into a hug. He slapped my back before stepping away. "So when do you leave?" He asked as he walked towards the kitchen to grab a couple of beers. "I move in a couple of days" I answered him. "Shit that doesn't give me much time to find a replacement" DJ said with a frown. "Well if things go the way I hope you may be coming with me" I told him clinking my beer to his. "Seriously?" He asked with wide eyes. "Yep I told her manager that I thought it might be best to have two guards" I said. "I owe you big time" He said. I waved him off because he didn't owe me a thing.

Presumably to appreciate this effect, a giant disco ball was hung in the centre of the ceiling, bathing the entire area in changing multicolured light as it rotated in sync with four other rotating bulbs at the corners of the room to create some ethereal light show of sort. At the far edge of the room, just beside the right curved stairs, a DJ booth stood on a makeshift elevation.
