I walked to the door. I stepped into the corridor. The world waited.

My reflection looked like a stranger's eyes faded, lips pressed tight. And then, almost without noticing, I whispered to the glass, to the city, to myself: “Just one night of freedom. That’s all I need.” As the city lights shimmered, a dangerous thought took root in Ava’s heartone that would fire everything that followed. *One night to run, one night to burn.*

“I have no interest in binding you to either man. I want you free.” The word echoed—free? Rico had never really thought about freedom. He had thought about safety, maybe even comfort, but never freedom. Freedom was something children in the streets of his memory whispered about but never tasted. Freedom was a dream in the distance, a story told around fires. “Free…” he mouthed. “Yes,” the voice murmured. “But to be free, you must live long enough to choose. And right now, you are fading, Rico. Hunger is clawing at you. Thirst is breaking you. Soon, your body will decide for you.”

It meant someone else had already written the next chapter of my life. My hands shook as I folded the note back up. Across the corridor, my cellmate watched him with wary eyes. “What is it?” the man asked quietly. I forced a dry laugh. “A promise,” I said. “One I’m not sure I want.” I lay back on the cot, staring up at the ceiling. The concrete above me seemed lower now, the air heavier. Freedom, the thing I had dreamed of every night for weeks suddenly felt like a trap dressed as mercy.

I whispered a promise to myself: that even if I woke in a room that wasn’t mine, that I was bound to a man I never truly loved, I would find a way to fight for the freedom I deserved. With the rising sun casting long shadows on the floor, I gathered my things and prepared to leave Damien’s room. Every step felt heavy, a reminder that I was not yet free, but also that somewhere deep inside, I was still fighting. As I stepped out into the corridor, I clutched my journal to my chest and resolved that today, I would begin the slow process of reclaiming my own destiny—even if it meant facing a future that had been written without my consent.

People hate me, and that's an unchanging fact. There was once a time where I didn't know what dreaming was, and that didn't matter because I didn't need to dream for anything; I had everything I wanted, and my freedom was as easy as breathing, but my arrogance told me otherwise. One man, a human that I could so easily have destroyed if I had just a little less kindness in me, was able to ruin me, he taught me what dreaming was, to want something so far out of my grasp; To want to return to a home that I thought would always be mine. But now all I can do is pray that one day they'll find me and save me from this Hell.

“You wanna know what we call it?” I didn’t respond. More like I couldn’t. What they injected to me didn’t just calm me down. It wouldn’t even make me move. I could barely open my mouth nor speak. It shut Jia down. ”We call it The Freedom. You know why?” He walked in front of me. I watched as his eyes sparkled. Thinking of the things that are in their plans to be made. ”It will allow us to be free from the injustices of this kingdom. To be free to do what we want without having to follow or bow down to anyone. We are going to be much stronger, quicker and powerful than that puny boy king of Vamos.”

I was supposed to leave tomorrow, but thanks to Nick's video shoot, I have another two nights to spend here—that is, today and tomorrow. Then, on Monday morning, I will start another chapter of my life. I am turning this page that has denied me so much, this page that has been so mean to me. I am turning this page, which is full of fear, distress, regrets, and sadness. I am closing this pathetic chapter and opening a new one.
