As we soon started to call them, the chimeras came too fast, too unexpected, and too strong. Barely having time for a counterattack, their attacks spread all over the Earth. Appearing all over, some in cities, some in the counties, and a few even in the middle of the ocean, they move fast and within only a few months, entire nations are reduced to nothing more than burning trash.

Her face was drenched in sweat, and her eyes were red as if she'd been terribly wronged. "Ms. Harrison, she wants to bleed the earth dry." The student assistant froze, hand still on his brow. Zoe eyed the remote in Katie's hands. "Why do you have the dorm remote control?" Katie instantly pressed it to her chest like a sacred relic. "This thing is evil. Every breath of air it blows is cutting the life of our mountains and rivers short. Mother Nature bleeds too." As she said that, tears rolled down her cheeks. "I know people think I'm weird, but I just want to stop industrial civilization from poisoning our world."

Faith was reborn on the day of her twentieth birthday. She came back slowly, with with the weight of a mattress, the warmth of light, and the sound of birds. Small, ordinary things. The kind of things the dying don't get to notice. Then her eyes opened.” The first thing she saw was two faces hovering over her. She screamed, "Is this what heaven looks like?!” Her mother burst out laughing, pressing her hand on her chest. "Silly girl. Today is your birthday."

The world had descended into chaos, and every day felt like a struggle to keep hope alive. The fever was spreading faster than anyone had anticipated, and the infected were becoming more aggressive. Entire cities were falling one by one. The streets were empty save for those who had already been overtaken by the virus, their grotesque, zombie-like forms stumbling mindlessly through what remained of civilization. It felt like the end was drawing near, and even the most optimistic people were beginning to lose faith.
