The engine roared and the truck shot across the bumpy road, giving him a moment of relief. Water drifted calmly and steadily against the shore in a steady, never-changing rhythm. The sound of the waves was calming, peaceful, and almost hypnotic. Magnus Jordan couldn't take his eyes off the horizon, trying to see the line that separated the sea from the sky. It was impossible; everything was a blur in the distance in hazy blue-grey shimmering tones.

Letting the silence sip in, I enjoyed the calmness and stillness of the water but it was only for a short while because I heard piercing distant screams and yells… it sounded like a pack of wolves in danger. My eyes twitched and brows furrowed. The screams were disturbing and nauseous… it was getting closer. Ominous.

There was a resounding sound in the distance, a roaring so loud it could wake the dead. A chilling draft came along with it and a dash of tanginess. Alice opened her eyes. A body of water greeted her. It was a bay. With a dazzling blue flow, a slight silvery-green undertone given by the risen sun. The giant boulder slopes that caved it in were nicked in the middle by a gentle shore. The white foam of the waves rolled steadily on the water’s surface before tumbling on the sand and sinking into its diamond mesh.

This continued till her back hit the hard wall, she swallowed her Saliva and straighten her body. There was very little distance between their bodies. The proximity was tensed and so closed that the fragrance of their body was also mingled. Armaan was very tall around 6’2, he put his left hand above her head, bent his head little, and asked, “But what?” Her head was very close to his chest, she can hear his heartbeat, although her own was racing at a much higher speed. She couldn’t hear what he said and was somewhat like lost in his closeness.

Damien's mouth went dry. Marrine lifted her arms. The ocean moved. A wave rose behind her. Higher. Higher. It should have crashed down. It didn't. It bent. The enormous wall of water curved around her. Damien stumbled backward. His foot struck a stone. He nearly fell. "No." The wave remained suspended. Marrine continued singing. The ocean seemed to breathe with her. The fish moved together. The birds turned in perfect circles. Even the wind seemed to obey. Damien stared.

Amid the crisp sound of glasses colliding, I took a sip of the cold beer. The chill slid down my throat, but somehow, it warmed my heart. The road ahead was long, yet there was no reason to look back. Somewhere out there, beyond the horizon, an open wilderness was still waiting for me.

The roof access door swung shut behind them and the festival noise dropped away like a held breath finally released. Rain came down in thin cold sheets, the kind that didn't bother announcing itself, just arrived and committed. The rooftop stretched out in every direction… a maze of satellite dishes, ventilation units, and transmitter arrays that glowed faintly in the wet dark, pulsing in rhythms that had nothing to do with the music from the plaza far below and everything to do with Echo's signal amplifying itself through every connected device in the tower's infrastructure. The city spread beyond the roof's edge in smeared neon, beautiful and burning, forty floors of ordinary life going on

Then, faintly, from the water’s surface, two reflections appeared—hand in hand, outlined in gold. The ripples whispered with each passing wave. Remember. Forget. Remember. And somewhere deep beneath that stillness, two heartbeats pulsed in perfect harmony.
