I'm starting to think her personality might just be too big for this family. Matt was lying on his bed in athletic shorts and some old t-shirt while watching TV. It was nearly 11pm. He normally would stay awake until 2- 3:00am playing video games or screwing around on the internet, but since that wasn't an option, Matt was about to turn in out of boredom when his door swung open. It opened with such ferocity that Matt nearly fell off of his bed.

I give a modest smile. I study him. "So Matt are you a doctor by chance?" I probe. "Yes, a neurosurgeon." he says flatly. Hmm. Long history with Cassie, clearly protective of her, comfortable around her too. Definitely a problem, a very polite problem. She grabs her coat. "Ignore him." I placed a hand over my chest. "Ouch! bella I'm hurt." I feign annoyance. "No one believes that." she smiles lightly. Matt laughed.

He followed where I was looking and hastily cupped his chest.

It it were Dad teasing him, Mattie would be in the in the infirmary fo a week at most. I brush his sweat covered hair back and lean down to kiss his forehead before handing him the remote for the TV before walking over to the desk I had in the corner and sit down while pulling out all the paperwork I had to go through. Taking a deep breath I get tackle my Alpha duties. A few hours later, I look up and over to the couch and find Mattie passed out on the couch. I smile and walk over to him seeing that the ice had already melted so I pull that off him before gently picking up before carrying him to the bathroom.

"There isn't." Another silence, this one heavier with shared understanding. Two people who'd lost their mates, standing in a hallway discussing gardens and grief. Except one of them had ordered the other's mate killed.
