FINDING ELENA
Tears stung as they gathered in her eyes
“I did something really horrible.”
Julia frowned, swinging her legs over the bed. “What do you mean, horrible? What did you do?”
Elena hesitated, her throat tight, the words pressing but refusing to come.
“I didn’t tell the whole truth.”
Julia’s expression hardened, her protective edge flashing through the haze of sleep. “The whole truth?”
Elena dropped her gaze, unable to answer.
Julia’s voice sharpened. “You want to vanish into the dark with an infant in your arms? You have to be able to say more than ‘I did something horrible’.”
