The elevator shot straight down toward the basement level. Inside, Hayley jabbed every button she could. The elevator ignored them all, as if something had priority. It just kept descending, carrying everyone inside rapidly toward the lower floor. Her mind was racing. Staring at the elevator like she had just seen a ghost, Hayley ran through every possible explanation in her head. First off, it definitely couldn't be a ghost. The lobby ceiling stretched high above us, painted with gilded designs that seemed too delicate for the weight they carried. But we didn’t linger.
