Elliot’s jaw tightened slightly. “That’s vague.” “It’s intentional.” Elliot glanced at him. “You know what it is.” “Yes.” “Then say it.” A beat. “The elevators are cycling.” Elliot went still. “That’s not possible.” “They shouldn’t be active without command.” “Exactly.” Another vibration rolled through the structure. Stronger this time. Elliot took a slow step back. “It’s not just here.” “No.” “It’s everywhere.” “Yes.” The word settled heavy. Elliot turned slightly, scanning the rooftop like something else might move next.

These were her doors of escape. The elevator was a horrible box of silence. The elevator was empty except for her, but his voice had remained inside her mind: the hypocrisy of his greeting, the mad and squeaky excuses, and the pitiful trembling of the faltering lie. I was proud of you. Tears had threatened to rise into the back of her throat, but she’d pressed them back down into the pit of her chest and swallowed her sadness.

He said. “We are so sorry for that. We will get you out soon. There was a power outage and something kind of went wrong with the elevators. We are so sorry for the inconveniences this might have caused you.” The man said. As if waiting for this, the lights in the elevator went off. Oh God. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing. My hold on his arm tightened and I did more than holding his arm. I wrapped my arms around his waist. “Please we'll need you to hurry.” There was more urgency in his voice.

It looks so cool and feels so smooth and heavier than I thought, like it’s whispering: yep, you’re really doing this. “You’ll be heading to the thirty-nineth floor,” the receptionist says, all calm and eloquent. “Take any of those and press thirty-nine.” she instructs as she points toward a row of elevators. I nod, thank her and head towards the elevator. Inside, I press the button, and the tiny glow beneath my fingertip feels like a switch flipping in my life. The elevator hums softly as it climbs higher and higher, the numbers ticking upward in a countdown.

He nodded meaningfully to see that the hotel cleaners were doing their cleaning job perfectly. The doors of the elevator were about to slide close when Jesse pressed the button to the top floor, and it was interrupted as a child ran in and beckoned another child to follow her in. A woman too proceeded into the elevator to join them, before the doors finally slid closed and the elevator smoothly began to ascend. "You are sure I didn't pass the flu to you, Evan?" Autumn asked her brother as the elevator moved up, and he shook his head in disapproval and just patted her head.

It was on a sunny Thursday afternoon, after school hours, Ebuka was waiting for the family driver to come and pick him up, he sat on a chair under a big tree which acted as shade for the students, few students were remaining in the school as most of the student had gone home including his friends, so he sat under the tree waiting for the driver, his attention drifted to four girls playing "Suwe" under another tree that was some distance away from where he was, it was then that he saw Rose, she was so beautiful, he had never seen such a beauty, he wondered why he had not seen her before, he couldn't stop staring at her, just then the driver arrived.

Finally, I would be alone, a chance to release the torrent of emotions I had been holding back. Lily led the way, and I followed her out of the dining room. The house was vast and maze-like, with corridors that seemed to stretch endlessly. We approached an elevator, its doors sleek and modern. I stepped inside, and Lily joined me, pressing the button for the sixth floor. The interior of the elevator was stunning, with mirrored walls that reflected our images from all sides. The light was soft, casting a warm glow that highlighted the intricate details of the space. I could see my reflection clearly; my eyes looked tired, the weight of the day's events evident in their drowsy appearance.

He clicked on the B89 button on the elevator and it made a loud ding. The metal box slightly creaked as it descended down below, into the B89 floor that was labeled as Paradise.

Marcus whispered, as if reading her thoughts.
