“I see.” My hands rolled into fists by my side as she ascended the stairs. I should never have asked. ~~~~ “Who is she?” Kris whispered as she moved so closely to me. She was bad at doing things secretly. Moving close to me this way simply made it obvious that she was asking questions. “My cousin—“ “I’m Elsie,” she cut in from my left-hand side. “Elsie Brown.” “Brown?” Kris stared at me. “I’m pretty sure I’ve heard the combinations of those names before…”

Her hip-hugging workwear flaunted her perfect figure and she was smiling charmingly. “Director Hart, I am Elsie Foster, the Leader of Team B from Chase Group’s Design Department. This is the Chase Group’s design draft.” Her voice was especially melodious. She was holding onto the design—which she snatched away from Myra earlier—while swaying her hips as she made her way to the head of the table where Tony sat.

"I'm sitting here." Elise shot Halsey a victorious look as she was about to get in. Halsey scoffed. Did Elise really think she was some pushover? How ridiculous! Just as Elise was about to climb in, Halsey suddenly grabbed a handful of her long hair. Elise screamed in pain. She was all dressed up today, with every strand of hair perfectly styled. Around Shaun, she took great care of her appearance—she wanted to win him over and become Mrs. Lane.

"As long as Mr. Lloyd is willing to take me, I'm willing to go." Valerie said nothing. She closed her eyes, her fists clenching so tightly her knuckles cracked. It felt like the air itself was pressing down on her from every direction. One word came to mind: annoying. Damn it, this Andrew really had a way of getting under her skin. Elsie was one of their prized auctioneers, someone the Reyes family had gone out of their way to recruit. Her looks alone were stunning, but her professional skills were even more remarkable.

“I am trying to help, yet you are giving me difficulties. Hun. What gentle man ignores a lady?” He lifted his eyebrows thrice before his gaze could catch a proper glimpse of her. “Who are you?” “Hun!” She sounded surprised. “Don’t you know me? How can you not know me?” “On which currency are you drawn?” He raised a savaging question. “Don’t you remember me? I am Elsie. Cohen’s only sister. An heiress of Lucas Family,” she introduced, fastly. “We stumbled onto each other some days back. You even wanted to be friends with me.”

“The truth.” I could see Mother was bordering on panic. She spread her hands in resignation. “My brain was genetically and biologically enhanced beyond anything nature could ever achieve.” She paused, wringing her hands, one over the other. “You were cloned…to take over my role if the program ever got back on track.”

The witches and wizards and this eerie aura made people feel afraid, but this man seemed to not have any. But it might be because he was an expert and knew how to suppress his aura just like Ashton. He looked like a completely ordinary man but Maya knew that he was not simple. So this was the infamous wizard that conjured her birth and even cursed her! She was already twenty but she could not feel the presence of her wolf. She felt nothing like a wolf. "Child, you have grown," Eliphas said when he saw that Maya had been eyeing him. "Sorry I saw uncle Eliphas and felt excited and forgot to do the introduction," Ashton said as he smacked himself on the head.
