It’s not your fault.” I hold his cheeks between my hands forcing him to look at me as I repeat what he needs to hear. “It’s not your fault. Empaths are not normal wolves. You can not treat what you can not find.” He looks at me intently as if he doesn’t fully understand what I had just said.

Celeste The morning came slow and muted, the kind of light that looked half-asleep as it filtered through my curtains. I had barely slept. My mind had been full of gold-inked words and diagrams that refused to leave. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw that book again the sketches of the mind, the symbols for thought and control, and that single phrase that had branded itself into my memory: “Empathy without boundaries becomes madness.” It looped in my head like a prayer and a curse.

I wonder what those words mean because I’ve never used or felt them. Alpha Zac looks puzzled with Alpha Riley. Too bad, he got it all wrong. “ Let’s pretend that we have emotion other than anger and greed of power,” I sarcastically said making Alpha Zac chuckle. Am I wrong? The three of us know what we really are. We are monsters and expecting us to have empathy is nothing but stupidity. Empathy, compassion, and any other emotions that the human succeeded to pointed out only vanishes as soon as it creeps into our skin.

Ember knew that Axle was right, but she would do anything to not talk to her mother or see her. "Alright, I give up."She said. "Don't. Alright how about this? We both should work hard to get along with both our parents instead of one if us getting along with our parent. I think that it's more fair that way."He said. "Axle, I don't think that I can ever get along with my mom. She's just… she's a narcissist, and I can't get along with a person like her."She said. "Do you even know what a narcissist is?"Axle asked. Ember rolled her eyes at his question.

Because she is good at selling herself. “So, what are you going to do?” Harvey’s voice tears me out of my thoughts, making me look up at him. “What do you mean?” “With Amber. Are you listening to your narcissistic counselor and dropping her?” Distorting my face, I click my tongue. “There is a reason why he is in his position. I don’t think I should mingle with some sketchy woman.”

I redirect my gaze to him and reply, "He's not my weakness. And no, I can't deal with the idea of him getting hurt. He's my friend, and I care about his safety. A psychopathic, selfish, self-centered narcissist like you wouldn't understand what it feels like to care about someone since you obviously only care about yourself." He smiles at the derogatory names I just called him, not a hint of anger in his eyes over the insults. With him, I'm not even sure he'd register those words as insults. He's crazy enough to take them as compliments. Carl nods with a smug smirk. "You're right, I do care about myself more than anything in this world. I'm selfish and self-centered because I'm my number one

One could hear the disappointment of the man in his voice and its weight was overwhelming. Ema had always been hardworking, and efficient, all the other positive connotations associated with being a workaholic. But now, she was before her furious Alpha, and she was feeling like a mere insignificant insect. “Speak,” the wolf went on, his tone feral now, “How come you and your team of high-profile rogues were defeated by a bookshop owner and some dogs?” Ema was just about to say something when she felt anger briefly before being overcome by embarrassment.

We might not agree, but we can humanize each other. Not saying that we all ought to start loving and accepting authoritarian fascists and objectivist libertarians and self-important narcissists. But we can see what it is they want and why they do the things they do. From there, we can choose more wisely what to do with them. Try to heal, or convert, or fight, or avoid, and so on. We as a society have a lot to do when it comes to understanding and empathizing with each other. And I hope this book has helped further this sentiment within you. It certainly helped me, even as I wrote it.
