She nodded, unable to speak. “Use your words, Millie.” “Yes, Game Master. I am prepared.” He nodded, a flicker of approval in his eyes. Then, with a snap of his wrist, he sent the die spinning through the air. It didn’t touch the table. It was a ceremonial, mid-air roll. It hit the carpet with a soft thud and lay still. Four. As Ezra supported me, I clutched my stomach and walked slowly through the pain toward the hotel entrance. Hansel tried to stop us, but suddenly, someone yelled, "Ms. Sullivan fainted!" Then, he immediately turned his attention to Nara, scooping her up and shouting, "To the hospital!" I turned to watch him carry her through the crowd, his face etched with concern. My chest ached as I thought bitterly. Even during our most loving days, his choice was always Nara. If I had realized this sooner in my previous life, perhaps I would not have met such a tragic end.

1899 became 1898. Coincidence? I don’t believe in those. My eyes dart to the public roster at the bottom of my screen. Ten player names, each with a long, green health bar and a numerical Life Point value. A minute ago, we all had different totals, all hovering around 1990. Now, every single one of us has lost exactly one point. A connection snaps into place, cold and logical. The NPC count is our collective health pool. Every student or teacher those monsters kill drains one Life Point from every player in the instance.

"Layla too! She kept fanning the flames in the group chat!" Within seconds, everyone in the room turned on Keira and Layla. "You traitors—cowards!" Keira trembled with rage, pointing at those who had turned against her. "You guys said you'd stick with me yesterday! How dare you betray me now!" Layla collapsed in her chair, her face pale, unable to say a word. I waited until their shouting had mostly subsided, then tapped on the table. "Quiet." The conference room went silent. Everyone's eyes were on me, fearful, pleading, as if seeking mercy.

A circle. Finally closed.
