We arrived at the Cole estate, and the moment we walked in together, the reaction was immediate. The Cole family had spared no expense for Mrs. Cole's birthday celebration. The entrance hall was filled with flowers and elegant lighting, waiters circulating with champagne and hors d'oeuvres, a string quartet playing softly in the corner. Anastasia was there in a red dress, initially the center of attention as the birthday girl's daughter and unofficial hostess. Animated, Esther got up early in the morning and began to rummage through her closet for something appropriate to wear. After much looking around, she was able to find a pretty white skirt— most likely from few years back— and settled on a hoodie to match up with it. After wearing the socks, she pulled her hair into a ponytail and carried her backpack. Examining herself in the mirror, Esther felt dissatisfied at how she looked childish.

" Esther nodded a no. "This?" She raised a red chiffon that stopped at the knees up. "Never!" She screamed and Ben laughed. "This?" She raised another up to show her. "No." She was at the eleventh dress now, "This?" She raised it up tiredly. "Yeah! That's it!" Esther snapped. "You mean this is cool?" She asked to be sure. "Exactly, have you forgotten I have good taste when it comes to buying dresses, especially dinner gowns." Esther said and Ben remembered Esther got her the dress as a present on her last birthday. And she had never worn it..

“Esther has a short time left to live. We just need her to give you her money before she dies.” “Okay, fine.” I sighed, rolling my eyes. “How do I look? I curled and dyed my hair blonde and added white extensions so it would resemble Giselle’s hair color.” My mother smoothed my hair, running her hand through it before she stepped back with a smile on her face. “You look good, sweetheart. Esther won’t be able to tell the difference between you and Giselle. Soften your voice a little, and you’ll have her wrapped around your finger.”

Esther rolled on the floor in pain, and Cole watched her cry out in pain without a single trace of guilt in him. Compared to what she has done, this was nothing, and he still had a lot in store for her. Even though Cole had made it clear through his words and actions that he didn't love Esther, she was still not willing to give up so easily. She got on her knees and crawled to Cole, pleading with him as she did so. She was crying heavily now, and her entire makeup was ruined because of the tears. He just reached for some fruit in the bowl, peeling apples and berries like he’d done it a hundred times before, his hands steady and sure. “ ESTHER CARTER, YOU OLD WITCH! I KNOW YOU’RE IN THERE!” The words echo through the estate. Somewhere inside, a curtain shifts. Maya catches the movement and grins viciously. “Oh? Got your attention now, didn’t I?” Another guard moves forward, reaching for her arm, but she jerks away. “Don’t touch me.” A slow, deliberate clap sounds from the mansion entrance. Maya’s eyes snap upward. There was a table of hand foods by a giant marque. Luc was standing next to Joseph who had his arm around her shoulders, drawing her close to him. Esther was standing next to them, eyes darting around like she was searching for the nearest escape route. Josephle was talking to them, probably yelling above the music, gesticulating wildly, her face animated. She looked like a diva in the sleeveless mini-dress and stilettos she was wearing. When she saw us, her face brightened up. She sashayed towards us, the curly locks of her wig bounced on her bare shoulders.

My grandfather always made sure of that but now he was old and gradually I could tell he was losing it. Esther was someone I was familiar with.
