Evelyn Miller Book Novels & Stories

Jordyn woke up, almost blinded by the halogenic lights they use in the hospital. Machines were beeping close by her, which just confirmed where she was. Jayce’s hand covered hers. “What happened?” Her voice was weak and barely sounded like her. “I think we met Vivian.” Jillian answered as she walked into view. “What?” She questioned, glancing between Jayce and Jillian. Jayce nodded his answer. “Where’s Myra? I don’t have time to be stuck here.”

Mine. When I stepped out to deliver the welcome note, something in my stomach clenched. I nearly turned back. The lights were brighter than I remembered. The clinking of silverware stopped when I stepped into the open. Every head turned. Every eye locked. They watched me like people watch a phoenix. Half wondering if it would rise again. Half hoping to see ash. I steadied my voice. “My name is Evelyn,” I said, letting the quiet hold me. “Tonight’s meal is personal. You’ll taste fire. You’ll taste healing. Sweetness. Salt. You’ll taste the pieces of what I lost—and what I found.”

"Did you say, Cora?" Elena nodded. "Yes, why?" Evelyn lowered her gaze, trying to remember. "Cora Miller, am I right?" Elena nodded again. "Yeah." Evelyn blinked and looked at her with her mouth open, looking like someone in awe at something. "Wow. No wonder, I always found what she said weird." "What are you talking about? You know her?"

Evelyn picked up a book and sat down on the thick and soft cushion as she read comfortably. She was originally worried that she would be bored while waiting, but she forgot all about the passage of time with these books around. Evelyn only looked away from the book in her hand when Rowan knocked on the door and came in. “Are you done eating?” Evelyn quickly closed the book in her hand and stood up when she saw him coming in. She had completely forgotten about the time while reading, so she asked him this question because she thought that it had only been a while. In fact, it was already 9:00 PM.

She turned her venomous gaze toward me, her eyes filled with the same hatred they’d had when she forced me to drink the aborticide. I didn't flinch. I just retracted my hand and gave her a thin, mocking smile. Without a word, Daphne dragged a dazed Ryan away, disappearing into the crowd of whispering socialites. My work here was done. I had just announced to all of New York that Evelyn Miller, formerly Evelyn Harrington, was back. And I was holding all the cards. As I made my way toward the exit, a swarm of reporters blocked my path. Their cameras flashed like a thunderstorm.

Viviane insisted. “Do as you wish,” Arthur grumbled. Then, looking at Eliza, he asked, “Are you hungry? The hens are laying good eggs these days. There’s still a few scrambled in that pan.” Since she normally woke up ravenous, Eliza was surprised to realize that she actually felt full. Not wanting to bring any more attention to her that might renew their questions about where she’d been and why, she smiled and made her way to the stove. Lifting the cover off the fry pan, she lowered her face over the eggs and sniffed long and deep. They smelled especially delicious that morning.

Eve said with a long sigh then she stood up, making Evelyn raise her head to look up at her. “I'll get going now. It's already nearing five in the morning. Time passes by. I'm going to visit you again after a month. Also, I read about that book—it was psychotic to the point that I'm going to be stressed just by reading the novel from chapter one to chapter five hundred. Damn.” Eve complained while pouting, making Evelyn's eyes widen as she looked at her. “What's the ending? No, the plot?” Evelyn asked but Eve cheekily smirked at her.

Someone else. I press myself against the wall, my chains rattling softly, every nerve in my body screaming danger. The torchlight flickers, and a figure emerges from the shadows. Doctor Elias. "Lia." His voice is soft. Wounded. The voice of a man who doesn't want to be here. "Elias." I say his name like a prayer. "Please. Please, you have to help me. You have to," "I can't." He kneels in front of me, and I see the vial in his hand. Glass. Dark liquid inside. Wolf's bane.

I thanked him and we got out, waiting until he drove away before entering the apartment building. Upon returning to the apartment, I went straight to the bathroom and washed. When I came out in my bathrobe, Mildred had already prepared a hot drink for me. “Miss Evelyn, do you think Dr. Nate seems interested in you?” She startled me with this observation. She looked at me apologetically and said, “Perhaps I’ve said too much, but since Mr. Hastings isn’t coming back, you should consider new options. Dr. Nate is a good person.”
