I don't deserve to live! Enough! I try not to breathe oxygen, so the air is stuck inside, my breath runs out. Yes, this is all I need right now. I don't want to, anything else at this point. No one wants me alive. I hold my breath as much as I can. I want to take my life now.

Kaelen slowly lifted his head, his eyes burning an absolute crimson. Matt’s pupils dilated in horror. Before he could even attempt to pull back, Kaelen’s hand clamped tightly around his throat, hoisting him into the air like a defenseless chick. “Kill me?” Kaelen sneered, a mocking smile appearing on his face. “You think you’re worthy?” Kaelen violently grabbed Matt’s right arm, unleashing a suffocating wave of Alpha aura that left everyone in the room gasping for breath. In the next heartbeat, he ripped the dagger away and plunged it directly through Matt’s throat.

“It’s so hot, and this is an outdoor party. She’s suffering from heatstroke, yet she lies on the ground and continues to pretend. A cold drink will fix her right up!” Suddenly, I felt like I was about to die. My heart pounded violently, and my shoulders started shaking. I gasped for air, but nothing reached my lungs. My throat let out harsh, ragged breaths. The guests saw that something was wrong with me and stepped back in fear. “She… she’s not actually dying, is she?” Ethan’s eyes widened. His whole body trembled as he froze in place.

"I won't walk away, nothing you do, nothing at all will make me walk away from you, just take everything you need Sean, take it now" He moved quickly, not even answering, he had me flipped on my stomach instantly, his hands pulling me up from the bed, he laid me on the table, my stomach against it, my boobs hanging over the edge.

“Even if you do.” He let out a broken sound. “Don’t say that.” The light surged again. The world tilted. The circle blurred. “Her breath is fading!” someone cried. Kieran pressed his mouth close to my ear. “Breathe with me. Now. In. Hold. Out. Again.” I followed him, even as the air felt thin, like it had to travel a long way to reach me. “In,” he said. I pulled it in. “Out.” I let it go.

The whisper of wind through the trees. And the sound. That beautiful, rhythmic sound in my ear. Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Her heart is still beating. And so I keep breathing.

"You were standing still. And your body reacted like something was hunting you." He's right. God, I hate that he's right. "Breathe in for four. Hold for four. Out for six." I drag air in. My ribs resist. The breath stops halfway, like my chest forgot how to expand. I fumble the count. A laugh scrapes out of me. "I sound like a busted radiator." The corner of his mouth twitches. Once. Then it's gone. "Again." I close my eyes. Inhale. One, two, three, four. Hold. On the third count out, my vision whites out. Not pain. Just gone.

My blue eyes aren’t helping either, too bright, too noticeable. I open a drawer and pull out a small black bottle. Not cologne. Pheromones. Alpha pheromones. I spray it liberally on the chest, neck, and wrists. Then raise my arm to my nose and inhale. Strong. Sharp. Synthetic. But effective. Satisfied, I tuck the bottle into my pocket and head out.

Damon in this state was a much more beautiful sight than any other I’d ever come across, it brought a small smile to my face and I continued to watch him. “So take a breath, love.” He turned to me. The sudden look swept me off my feet, his intense gaze sending shivers through me. My eyes shut and I took in a breath, inhaling the saltiness of the air. “On the days you feel stifled, when you feel empty and you have no idea what to do, when it feels like the world is moving too fast for you to catch up, take a breath.” His voice came out as a hum that soothed my ears, filling me with so much calmness as it made its way through my ear, and into every part of me.
