She glanced at the fountain first before she looked at Theo. "I wanted to show you this special and sacred place in hopes that you will understand me and the way we live, even just for a little." Theo said with all seriousness. Maddie just nodded to urge him to continue. "This flame was revived when the war from a long time ago was put to an end. Since then, this flame was not on the verge of dying out." "Wait." Maddie even put her hand up to stop Theo from speaking. "What does the war have to do with the flame? Is the war about putting water in it?" Maddie was serious but Theo chuckled on her question which made her brows knot.

The Flame was just the beginning. The rumbling grew louder, and suddenly, the ground split open with a deafening crack. From the dark depths below, something emerged—massive, towering, and shrouded in shadows. A figure unlike any I had ever seen before, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light. It was enormous—its body a twisting mass of dark energy, a creature forged from the very essence of night. Its eyes locked onto mine, and I felt the Flame inside me respond, thrumming violently against my chest, as if recognizing this creature as its equal.

A fire. A scream. Silver eyes watching as I burned.

His eyes find mine before his body is enveloped with flames. I hover over him, holding him still and watching as his face cooks until it burns. The lumps that were once his hands slam against me, but do nothing. They bounce off of me easily. He makes a gagging sound and his eyes roll into the back of his head until the flames consume those too. I watch him, taking his pain, and not looking away for a single second. I stay on top of him and take, take, take. I watch him until his chest rises and falls for the last time.

It wasn’t. I walked to the metal table in the corner, where an assortment of tools lay waiting. Scalpels. Pliers. Rusted instruments designed for one thing. Pain. I picked up the blowtorch. His remaining eye widened. “No—wait, wait—” I ignited it, the blue flame hissing to life. Then I pressed it against his hand. His screams shattered the air, raw and desperate. The scent of burning flesh filled the room. I didn’t stop.

Third-person POV At that moment, Frank was sitting in his office, reviewing the investigation report his subordinates had sent him. The first report was a miscarriage report, which clearly stated that Darcy had suffered a miscarriage on the day of the fire. The cause of the miscarriage had also been determined through investigation and reviewing surveillance footage. Frank had shaken off Darcy's hand during the fire and hadn't heard her cries for help. The second report stated that Johanna had been deliberately spreading rumors to manipulate public opinion around this time.
