His metaphors were funny but surprisingly effective, and his passion bled through the jokes.
“I underestimated you,” Oliver said quietly after a while.
Scott leaned back against the beanbag. “People usually do. I let them.”
“Why?”
Scott shrugged. “If you let people think you’re harmless, they leave you alone. No expectations. No pressure.”
Oliver looked at him and said, “But you’re not harmless.”
Scott’s smile faltered. Then it returned softer, more honest. “Neither are you.”
Oliver smiled. “Well we should study together more often instead of coming here and sitting at different tables.”
