"What are those?" Aurora smiled. "These are the fall fairies. They have come to change the leaves." Sure enough as they watched. The leaves on the trees lit up. Before their eyes the foliage changed from shades of green, pink or purple to bright red, orange, yellow or even brown. Even the grass glowed and turned from a luscious green to a flaxen gold. The fairies made quick work of the plants as they came close to the humans. Their energy was mesmerizing. Aurora stood up and held out her hand. A single little firefly landed on her fingers and transformed into a creature resembling a tiny woman with wings. "Hello," Aurora greeted, dipping her head to show respect.

I almost missed my chance to hold my child, just once. Home is a magical place. It has a literal living, breathing magic essence that brings the rivers, trees, and all of nature to life. There were very few Fae, or magical beings, that didn’t prefer to live here. Humans tended to believe Fae meant fairy, or that what they deemed to be mythical beasts, weren’t magical. But Fae is all those that belong to the world of Selene and magic. Our architecture, for those that prefer buildings, looked like it came straight out of a fantasy novel. The large castle with many towers sprawling over acres of land, vines, and flowers covered the outside of the first two floors.

This wasn't a good sign, not a good sign at all. Fairies are a little different in regards to the members of our council. Similar to dragons, we operate within the four hemispheres, only instead of couples, each hemisphere is seen over by an elder selected by majority vote, usually a daughter of one of the princesses that didn't have children first, so they all behave like they have something to prove. And yes, that means we're distantly related. The problem with them being voted in, is that it's a rigged system and the most proper fairy is usually chosen. Something I never really realized until after all of the recent events opened my eyes more to the flaws and corruption.

I have no idea why the color would be that import
