Luna replied. "You'll only worsen your image." "Argh, fine," Luna said irritably. She then straightened up and forced a smile. "So, have you ever heard of fairy tales?" Luna asked, and her smile seemed to work. "I know one fairy tale, Cinderella," a little girl raised her hand enthusiastically. Luna looked at her and also noticed her tiny leg in a cast. "Smart girl. Can you tell us about it?" Luna asked. The little girl nodded eagerly. "Cinderella is a poor girl who was helped by a fairy godmother to meet a handsome prince," she said in a soft and cute voice.

’ He sniffled. ‘Maybe I can find a way to fix that, too,’ I muttered, scanning the pages of an ancient, dusty book I’d found buried in Moon Chasm’s library. I didn’t find anything. There were old fairy tales, so old they barely seemed recognisable anymore, that spoke of affronted gods casting down their children and making the first wolves. Some were classic tales, like the one about three pups going too near a river and being turned into toads to save them from drowning; others were cautionary tales, warning young wolves away from humans and forbidding any sort of romances between us and them – all in a fun, rhyming sort of way, of course.

She’s the reason I believe in them.” “You’re quite close to her.” “Well, we have our differences, but she means the world to me.” He nodded. “As of now, only Roy’s son, Arnav, comes here. I’ll get some fairy tales for Raisa when she is older.” Jade laughed. “What makes you think only girls should read fairy tales? Even boys can read them. They teach us about the victory of good over evil and that sometimes, miracles can happen even amidst the greatest chaos.”

No matter how good a dream is, we always have to snap back from it. All fairy tales usually have a happy ending, the prince saves the princess from an ogre, a knight in shining armor saves a lady from a hulky brute of a man and so forth. But the world lies, that is not what always happens. Fairy tales rarely have a happy ending. The prince will save the princess and trip down some stairs, fall down and break his neck. Or the lady will live for a few years as a wife to the night and die from child birth. The story tellers never give the actual tale, the sell what appeases to the eye and heart.

She was a fairy. "Now you might come and say fairies aren't real but believe me when I tell you most of the things that people say aren't real are very much real." I nodded in understanding, I just want her to go on with her story, I also have dreams about talking animals just like the girl.

She chuckled to hide her embarrassment but maybe she was liking this impossible fantasy too! I didn’t know how to reply to that and kept staring at her. Her breath mixed with mine and I could smell our hot breathes. She turned her gaze back to the sky and taking in a deep breath she spoke, “You know when I was a kid, my mother used to read me fairy tales! Those story where there is always a handsome prince who falls in love with the princess, or the beast who falls in love with the beauty! Those stories made me believe from a young age that someday I will also find my prince who would love me and we will build our own world full of love and happiness!”

It was the first time she had entrusted her with this task, and judging by her smile, she was pleased. “You know, I understand things going wrong, and I get control, but you have it down to an art form…” Grace laughed as she handed Helen the folder. “Well, this is perhaps my favourite project so far, fairy-tale clothing has always been a secret passion of mine.” Helen nodded. “Most girls have a love for fairy tales. Perhaps it’s to do with the fact that it is so different from reality. Princes to sweep you off your feet, dragons to slay, spells to break...you know the smoke machine they got is top of the line? Really pulls you into the story.”

I confess, plopping on my bed in frustration. My room is a gothic fantasy inspired thanks to Mom and her obsessions with fairytales. Mom loved to read me fairytales at night time. Some she made up; others were real stories in books. Mom was fantastic at engaging me in the story. Sometimes she would do different voices or act it out. I looked forward to it every night. I’d get lost in the fairytales of princesses, heroes, spells, and true love. I always saw my parents' love story as a dark fairytale that inspires me to have something unique and special like theirs.
