The light that had filtered through moments ago was all but gone, leaving Damien to rely on his heightened senses.
Then, without warning, the ground trembled beneath him. Damien stumbled, his heart leaping into his throat. The trembling grew stronger, accompanied by a low, rumbling growl.
His eyes darted toward the sound, and out of the dense undergrowth, massive, hulking figures emerged—trolls. Their gray skin was rough and jagged like stone, their yellowed eyes gleaming with malicious intent.
They towered over him, each one at least twice his size, and the moment their gaze locked onto him, they charged.
