Chapter 86 – The Abyss The ground gave way with a deafening roar, plunging the group into darkness. Jessica’s scream was swallowed by the void as she tumbled downward, her arms instinctively wrapping around her children to shield them from harm. The sensation of falling seemed endless, each second stretching into eternity as adrenaline surged through her veins. Finally, they landed—hard. Pain exploded through her body as she hit a cold, uneven surface, but it wasn’t enough to dull her senses. Around her, the others groaned and stirred, their voices muffled by the oppressive silence that followed the collapse.

Zephyr flinched by the contact but remain frozen. As soon as Zephyr’s attention turned to the Fallen, he let go of Lizzie. She was in a state of panic again and cautiously passed Zephyr. John picked up Senna, who was also currently in a state of shock and Linda held Lizzie’s hands.

The sky over the skyline flickered violently. The horizontal beam inside the frame cracked along its length. Then, the second constructor began to ascend slowly back into the frame. Retreat. The vertical pillars thinned dimmed and with a final blinding pulse, the entire framework over the city collapsed into a single narrow line. Then nothing but empty clouds with silence. Sirens continued wailing in confused disarray below. I knelt in the crystallized clearing, holding Kade’s limp body. “Kade,” I whispered urgently.

Now it all made sense. I turned my gaze on Marcus Hale, and a wave of desolation and hatred swept through me. After we switched, Vanessa and Marcus clung to each other right under my nose, touching one another in ways that made my skin crawl. As the plane climbed higher and crossed into the Egete, I knew what was coming—severe turbulence. Sure enough, the next second, the entire plane jolted downward. The violent drop sent every passenger screaming in panic. "Ah! What’s happening?!"

Cerise and Nicholas rode through the chaos that ensued, looking up, there were meteorites passing along the atmosphere, one strong gravitational pull and it's over for the land it crashes on. "If only Jean was here to see this" It was a breathtaking sight, one that makes you want to capture it all on camera. We jumped. For a second, nothing. Just air. Just falling. Then metal. We hit the scaffolding. Hard. It buckled. My shoulder dislocated. Pain white-out. Antonio’s mask cracked. He screamed. The scaffolding held. For three seconds. Then it tore away from the building. We fell again. Twenty floors. Then nineteen. Then eighteen. We hit the 18th floor scaffolding. It held. We didn’t move. Above us, the 22nd floor was a mouth of fire. Black smoke poured out.
