“It gets truer every time you say it.” She looked at him. She breathed. “Come on,” she said. “We are going to be late to James’s dinner.” He took her hand. They walked out of the garden. And somewhere in a city where everything was still in motion, eleven days before the symposium and four months before the trial and thirty-eight pages into a book that had sixty more to go, a story that had been moving for thirty years continued at exactly the speed it required. Forward. Always forward. Into everything that was still coming.

Donato spun around, but nothing was there. His pulse thundered. His breaths came short. He turned back to the pedestal— and nearly choked on air. Because the book was open. Its pages turned on their own. Slowly, deliberately like fingers of wind were flipping through fate. "No…" he whispered. "Stop." But the pages turned faster— faster—until they slammed onto one single page. The writing etched onto it shimmered like liquid black fire. And the temple whispered into his bones— "Three will go forward…

"What the hell are you reading?" Simon glanced at the front page. It had an erotic graphic. "I started reading one of Adolpha's books earlier. I kind of found it on her bed when I went to her room to look for her but she wasn't there. Anyways, I started reading this incredible book. It is about a girl who had a one night stand with a stranger. Ran away with his money and car the next morning when she woke up and fled the city. Three years later, she came back to that same city just to find out that the man she is going to work with is the man she had a one night stand with three years ago." "Whoa. That is crazy. First of all, the author of this book wrote it at a fast pace."

The second piece was just the same as the first, but adding more detail and background after they viewed their mistakes in the first. "Taking both of these." Ren rolled them up. "I take it as an illustration of your old home?" Two gave him a sad nod. "Hmm, ok. Come along now." Ren pulled the book to him and started to read as they walked. They made it out of the courtyard when Zero and Three ran up. "Can we come as well, Master?" Zero asked. Three just looked on excitied.

Draynon nodded and opened the book. He leafed through the book until he found the chapter that he was looking for. “Here we go. Now this was roughly 120 years ago, or four generations. It’s not so much a history book, but written similar to a novel to make the facts easier for the reader to remember, rather than just bombarding them with endless seeming names and numbers.” He coughed once to clear his throat and began reading from the book.

"In that case, I think the pizza can wait." End of Book One: Incendiary
