Jonah leaned down and whispered in my ear. "The real reason is that I've always loved you." I froze. He continued, "In my past life, Mona took your place and married me. After that, I realized she was never the one I wanted. But you…" His fingertips brushed my cheek, his voice low. "I've always wanted to give you the world." My heartbeat skipped. So the tragedy of my last life wasn't only because of Mona's greed. It was also because what she stole had always been my destiny to begin with.

I was a tool. Once out of order, I had no value. I pulled out the IV needle. Blood stained the sheets. I didn't bandage it. I just stared at the red stain. Something inside me died completely. I went to find the Witch of the Black Forest. I asked her, "How can my wolf completely give up on a fated mate?" The Witch stirred her potion, her black eyes staring at me. "Your wolf is stubborn. If I sever the bond now, the pain will destroy your soul. You will become a cripple."

And you felt so guilty you paid him back ten times what he spent! "As for giving up that transfer? He didn't pass the evaluation because he wasn't good enough. But he came back and told you he'd sacrificed the opportunity for us, so you'd feel indebted to him for the rest of your life!" I shouted all of it in one breath, tearing apart the lie that had been dressed up as family. Mom just stood there, stunned, staring at me like she didn't recognize me.

“Our pup didn’t make it.” Cass tried to pull away but Greyson held on strongly. “No.” She fought against his hold, but he still held her. He pushed up from his knees and crawled into the bed, wrapping his arms completely around her body. “No.” The word sounded more like she was choking than an actual thought. “NO!” This time it was like her heart was ripped from her chest and the scream that followed shattered the last bit of hope that everyone was holding, too. I went to the other side of the bed, and I reached for my friend, but she pulled away. I looked her in the eyes and I tried to tell her how sorry I was. “Cass.” I tried, but my words failed me.

Georgia felt a pain coursing through her body. Georgia gasped as she felt the rejection, like a thousand knives stabbing her all at once. She fell to her knees, clutching her chest as the pain intensified. She felt her heart breaking, her soul shattering. She had never felt such agony, such despair. She looked up at Jared, pleading with him, but he looked away. The people in the room were stunned, some whispering among themselves, others shaking their heads in pity. Georgia felt like a broken doll, discarded and forgotten. The one person whom she had hoped would understand her, who would love her, had rejected her.

“Miriam! You have to stop!” His words had broken through the dark magic hat had taken over me, but not before it ripped Dietrick’s head from his shoulders. I fell to the ground, landing with a thud. I was grateful that there wasn’t enough clearance in the room for it to be a long fall, though the landing still hurt. The sounds of furniture clattering to the ground accompanied my fall as all of my magic subsided. I closed my eyes as the last thing crashed to the ground, leaving only silence.

On the other hand her expressions were becoming hard to control, she wanted to appear calm and collected, but it wasn't possible at all for her as he kept on narrating his list. "And as for you, Ms. Best Fashion designer in the world, you were demoted and fired from your job as the lead fashion designer for the event... what is it called? Um.. Paris Fashion Week." He continued looking at her with his predatory gaze, while she tried to stay constant and confident with her gaze. "And that too not a long ago... just ten days..." He intended on narrating his list further but Alissa suddenly banged her hand on the table and said, "Mr. Stalza! Please come to the point."

Lily whimpered faintly but retreated into silence. There was a time I believed in mates. In fate. In forever. But that time died with my pack. With the betrayal. With him. And if a fated mate could shatter me like that, then Alpha Kairos Aspen didn’t stand a damn chance.
