Markbound
A low, animal sound rumbled in her throat, and she realized it was her own voice.
Cian jerked, a wet, startled gurgle escaping him. His grip on her faltered. His knees buckled. She pulled back only when his weight dragged him down, her breath ragged, her lips painted in his blood. It dripped onto her chin, warm and slick, marking her in ways water would never wash away.
He lay crumpled at her feet, gasping shallowly or maybe not at all. She didn’t check.
Didn’t care. She turned and left, his blood still warm beneath her bare feet. Without a backward glance, she vanished into the shadows of the trees.
