The idea of the Fates was borrowed but has a change in name for the characters. The Moirae, or Fates, are three old women who are charged with the destinies of all living beings, including heroes and heroines, and these destinies were represented by a string. They were called FATE A, FATE B and FATE C. FATE A would spin the string that represented the life of a living being; FATE B would measure its length to determine the length of that being's life, and FATE C, the eldest, would cut it when the time was right, thus ending with that being's life.

"Why take my best friend away from me?" "Perhaps it's for the best, baby. No matter how much and how hard you plan, what is meant to happen will happen. That's fate. Maybe you two were fated to part ways and you don't know. Maybe it's just for a little while. Whatever is fated to be yours will be yours" I smiled and held his hand in mine. Minutes later, we both sat in her sitting room with cups of cold mint tea. "When the Silver Hands rose a hundred years ago, seeking their ideals, they immediately gained a lot of followers, who were lured by the ideals they sought. That was when the Sulfur Hands rose, to tarnish the stellar image of the Silver Hands in the minds of people. Your father was a Sulfur Hands, as was his father before him," "The Silver Hands, they corrupt by taking the power of our wolves, and converting it into unnatural powers. They draw it out of the owner's body, and use it for unnatural purposes, like expanding their lifespans."

As night settled over the Alpha house, Rhett retreated to his office, but I felt him through the bond, his jealousy, his restraint, the push and pull of instincts he couldn’t smother. And Jace… Jace was quiet, but his emotions bled through too, satisfaction tangled with guilt, longing edged with fear. I curled onto the sofa, pulling my knees to my chest, staring at the fire until it blurred. We’d strengthened the bond, yes. But we’d also set something in motion we couldn’t stop. She doesn’t. “What is it?” “I miss her. Isn’t there something we can do to bring her home?” “No. In short. We must vice our time. Things need to happen. Fate needs to take place. Not only her future but those of our future children and children after them.” “Why does fate work like this, Alpha?” Her question mirrors the question I’ve been asking myself for many moons. Fate is the inevitable happenings that are destined long before you can even talk. I wonder who comes up with that bullshit and why.

I asked Kade. “Yes. However, the Elders have a more complex oath which means that they can’t go against the best wishes of the pack. Our pack has always held the belief that fated mate pairs are within the pack’s best wishes because we believe that the Goddess pairs people together for a reason which also makes the mated pair stronger, thus making the pack stronger.”

“You promise?” “Yes, I promise. Now let's go." “Wait, Mum. Let's spit shake," DJ spat in his palm and stretched his little hand out for his mum to shake. Celeste sighed, thinking she wouldn't have this problem if she had a girl, but she wouldn't change DJ for the world. Celeste stretched her palm for him to shake. “Wait, mum. You have to spit in yours too." Lucas was still standing there watching the mother/son exchange a spit handshake. Celeste did a quick survey of the area to see if anyone saw them. Then she saw a grinning Lucas watching.

The fate of an Unfortunate was worse than that of a wolf who had been rejected. If you got rejected, you could move on when you accept the rejection. There was no way to accept dying alone. Her aunt, Faye, was an Unfortunate too - it seemed to run in families, although the scientists and doctors said it wasn't genetic. Faye was as happy as she could be, though. She worked with the orphaned kids of the pack, because she said she knew what abandonment was like - the Goddess had abandoned her. Avery wasn't the motherly type, so she couldn't exactly do that. She was coarse and aggressive, and although sensitive, she was clumsy with her feelings.

“Why do I get the feeling that you hate me even more than Priest does?” Shaking his head, he scoffs and pulls my arm out of his grip. “I met my Fated fifteen years ago right here in Vegas in the middle of a suburb,” he starts. “She was beautiful; hair the color of honey, eyes bluer than a cloudless day, and a temperament that could cause even Gabe to calm down.” I frown. “What does this have to do with me? What is a Fated?” He turns around to face me and places the tray on the nightstand. “Ever heard of something called a ‘mate’ amongst werewolves?” I nod. “Well, we vampires have something called a Fated, and only vampires 200 years and older get to meet theirs.”
