You smiled nervously, fidgeting lightly in your seat. “Um, nope, no, those are, uh, those are for you- for us actually I guess.”

I picked up groceries, stopped by the hardware store to get wall hooks for the baby monitor, and then—on a whim—walked into the local bookstore. I hadn’t been inside in over a year. The bell above the door chimed, and the scent of old paper hit me like a memory. The place hadn’t changed much. Still cramped, still charming. Floor-to-ceiling shelves, a mismatched armchair in the corner. I wandered until I reached the parenting section. There were too many titles. Too many opinions. I almost turned away. "I mean the baby in your belly. It's not good for him. You know it can break your placenta. You are six months pregnant and you should prevent premature delivery as much as you can." He said as he tried to snatch the bag from my hand. I wondered if he had much knowledge about everything, I just came to know about these terms when I was pregnant. I noticed a book that was kept near his bag. "Guide for new fathers." My brows arched when I realised he was reading that book. He is pretentious, I can't believe him. Now all acting like he wanted this baby when he abandoned us before. "You don't have to worry about it, I have enough to take care of it," I said and closed the door.

I motioned to the chair and he gave me the very first response, a small jerk of his head, a nod. I sat opposite him and he watched me. The music was loud in the bar, yet the world between us kept silent. Suddenly, I am out of words and my mind, why the hell I approached him? My eyes wandered away to him and stopped at my friend Elle, who was still encouraging me with silent whispers. Bravo! The reason returned and so did my senses. He is the father we chose for my child! How can I give up without a try? As I was close to the man now, I could see the clear features of his face, and indeed he was handsome.
