“You never told me your name.”
The witch slowed just slightly. Her eyes slid toward Freya, pale, shimmering, and ageless. There was something like grief in them. Something buried beneath centuries of silence.
“My name was buried when Skyrana fell,” she said after a long pause. “I only just remembered it.”
Freya waited.
“Nyra,” the witch said at last. “That was the name she gave me. And names,” she added, voice turning flint-edged, “carry weight. Echoes. Power. You don’t speak them unless you’re prepared to carry what follows.”
