She slipped the ring through it before putting it around her neck. She looked at herself in the mirror and could almost imagine ‘Nemo’ behind her, kissing her neck. ‘I’ve never felt like this before,’ he would whisper as his heated breath warmed her neck. Slowly, the illusion disappeared, leaving her alone in the room. “Come on. Let me remember something!” she said, looking up at the ceiling. “After this terrible year, it’s only getting better. If I can divorce a psychopath successfully, finding a random man would be easy!” she said out loud to give herself some hope.

The voice spoke again. I thought maybe it sounded like a female voice, but it was hard to tell. I don’t know why but that voice helped calm me. Returning my attention to Shane, I thought of what I could do. Now that I was calmer, maybe I could think of away. “What can I do?” I asked the voice, hoping it was still listening. “Find within yourself the answers. Be true to who you are...” The voice spoke once more, each word becoming harder to hear as the voice faded away.

It was a relentless cycle of longing and speculation. Suddenly, amidst my wandering thoughts, I heard it—the sound of his voice. Instantly, I'm jolted back to reality. I needed to locate him, by focusing, listening and finding the source of his voice. But before I could do so, I had to calm down and get rid of the problems from my mind. I closed my eyes, slowly, and slowly to focus. Bingo. I found him. However, just as I began to feel a sense of relief, another voice interrupted — a voice I didn't expect. "Professor Neil, I admire you greatly. Please accept my feelings." The words pierced through the air, disrupting the delicate balance of my emotions.

"But he will never stop coming for me." 'Then you need to go in there and prove yourself,' the voice tells me. "I don't know how many men are waiting for me," I can hear my voice shaking. 'You are stronger than you know,' the voice says quietly. 'You have powers beyond your ability of sight. You just need to search within yourself.' "I don't know how to do that," I plead with the voice. 'You can still run,' the voice says worriedly. "No," I say crankily. "I cannot keep running from Faris."

He asked me. I opened my mouth to reply but no sound was coming out. Tears streamed down my face when it finally dawned on me that I can't talk. Does this mean that I'm dumb? Will Michael still want me like this? “It's okay Miss Miller. Things like this do happen. It's quite normal. You haven't been using your voice for months. Give it sometime, you will find your voice. Okay?” He replied smiling up at me as he turned to scribble something in the files on his hands.

I refuse to die like this, not when something inside me knows there is someone out there who made me whole. I close my eyes and grip tight around the ring. “I’m coming,” I whisper into the dark, my voice soft, broken, and determined. “I don’t know who you are, but I’m coming.” I pause. “Wait for me.” My chest tightens. “Please. Because whoever you are, wherever you are, you are the only thing that has ever made me feel alive. And I will find you, no matter what it takes.”

Yet, I feel something drop in my stomach, something heavy, something I cannot quite put my finger on. I search for those voices at the back of my head. They have been eerily silent for so long; I try to wake them up. I call. I scream. I cry for help. But nothing, no voice reaches out, no one tries to change my mind when I breathe in a lungful of air and cover the evident distance between him and me. With every concrete step I take, I crunch something underneath my bare feet. I wince, stop, breathe and then get moving until I’m right in front of him.

My voice was quiet, struggling to hide the panic and fear that was rushing through me. “The nurse or who ever the fucking impostor is. I don’t care what it takes. Find her.”

“And try to minimize the chatter.” I swallowed hard, my throat parched and tight. Gathering my courage, I managed to find my voice, though it trembled and emerged as little more than a breathy whisper. “What’s... what do you want?” I stuttered, struggling to keep my tone from betraying my rising panic.

I could hear distinct voices but I couldn't make out the words they were saying. When I thought of just giving up, one voice finally reached my consciousness. A familiar voice that I couldn't remember who it belonged to. I just know that her voice gave me the will to fight again. Her voice moved me from the place I was stuck to. It gave me the strength to move my limbs to swim up. It gave me the inspiration to live again. I struggled and it hurt so much, but I kept pushing myself to resurface. After what felt like forever, I finally saw the surface and the voices were clearer now.
