Others were images of rituals I didn't understand: wolves gathered around pools of water, their hands linked, their eyes closed.
At the center of the temple, we found a single chamber. It was round and high-ceilinged, with a pool of water at its heart. The water was fed by an underground spring, and it glowed faintly, as if lit from within. The surface was perfectly still, reflecting the silver light from the carvings.
Theron approached the pool slowly, his heart pounding. The pull was overwhelming now, a steady pressure in his chest that made it hard to breathe. The Book was warm in his hands, and the light from the pool seemed to reach toward it, like a hand reaching for an old friend.
